Hair Loss is a common problem seen to impact many women at some point in their lifetime, over 91% admit they hold concerns over losing their hair. But why does hair loss occur in women?
There are many factors known to play a role within the thinning or loss of hair, some of which we are able to combat to avoid the chances of hair loss. Below, we will discuss some of these.

Protein

Protein is known to make up around 80% of a person’s hair, making a balanced diet that contains large amounts of protein highly important to the upkeep of strong and healthy hair. Failing to get enough protein could result in the loss of hair.
Great sources of protein include various lean meats such as chicken, turkey, and oil-rich fish. Salmon is highly beneficial to hair health as it contains omega-3 fatty acids, which work to reduce joint inflammation and assist in the upkeep of a healthy heart. Other foods like nuts and tofu, as well as eggs and beans, are also great protein sources.

Nutrients

Despite our best efforts, it sometimes feels impossible to get all the nutrients we need to maintain a healthy, full head of hair just through meals alone. Taking nutrient supplements provides a great way to make sure that our bodies are getting all they require. However, nutrients aren’t designed to assist in the prevention of hair loss.
Working to better the number of nutrients that we are seen to consume on a daily basis could be great for the health and thickness of your hair, helping you to prevent a loss of hair.

Hydration

While it can sometimes seem challenging to drink the recommended 2 litres of fluids per day, dehydration can impact both the appearance and health of your hair, even stunting its growth in the most extreme of cases. Making sure that you drink the recommended amount each day could be seen to work wonders for your hair, preventing hair loss and thinning, however, what you are drinking should also be take into consideration. Drinks that typically increase the amount of water that your body is using on average, such as caffeinated drinks like coffee, should be avoided.

In conclusion, there are many reasons as to why hair loss can be seen to occur in women, however, many can be easily prevented by following the recommendations listed above. Unfortunately, not all causes of hair loss are as easily prevented, meaning other measures are to be considered to maintain a full head of hair.
